Beryl Mage Hunters can be found around 42,40. They have a special attack called Frost Cut, which reduces attack speed, cast speed and movement speed by 5% per stack. Each successful strike will apply a stack. Debuff has a 1 second duration so if the attack misses or is dodged, the entire stack will wear off.
The drop rate of the keys is pretty decent as I got one after about 6 kills.
The prisons are located on the platforms. The one I used was at 41,42.

the first one i've opened it said something like: it's too late for me, and didn't gived me q completition....at the next opening of the same one, a mage apeared so if you get the message, try some more.

This is labeled as Alliance only, but this is also a Horde quest.

I found the mages at 41/39. You can see the blue glowing discs down in the valley from the cliffs of Amber Ledge. The mages look like mini dragons. The prisons are the boxes floating above the glowing discs. BTW Amber ledge also has a flight point and vendors including a repair guy.

You can actually use the key on the same prison over and over until you get the freed one. I too, had the 'it's too late for me' but it does work....maybe after three tries.
I hope this helps somebody.

when i first opened the box the quest didnt complete, so i thought id have to get another key so i killed about 20 things and never got 1, once you use the key the first time you still have it so if the quest doesnt complete when you open it first keep opening it

In the tower, are a lot of Profession vendors, on the 2nd lvl. I was unable to find any Ammo, so be certain you are well stocked before coming to this outpost.

As of now, a rogue can lockpick these prisons. I am 159 lockpicker and they were green colored to me.

It's a really simple quest; First of all you have to kill Beryl Mage Hunters and get the Beryl Prison Key. Then, you have to right-click on the flying cube to release a prisoner. Congratulations! Go back to Libriarian Donathan to turn in the quest.
As 'Moonfeather' said, Beryl Mage Hunters have a special attack called Frost Cut, which reduces attack speed, cast speed and movement speed by 5% per stack. They are really near to you. Just follow the path that leads down, and they are just a few yards ahead -easy to find them. Oh, and by the way, the quest's name rocks!

2 lucky Geezers! Just killed everyone in the area, magehunters and sorcerers... twice. Still no key.
Well, enough talk - kill everyone for the 3rd round and prey for a prisonkey.

It worked! The southern-most prison (42,42) opened when clicked it, but i did not have any key. I recieved cloth, money, 1 super healing potion and salted venison, but nothing remotely key-like-looking.

#$%^ty little quest i only got like 1 key and i killed over 30 and still got none... this is a horrible quest because of the low drop rate..... and the sorcerors get a little annoying when getting the key =/

EDIT:HORRIBLE QUEST I KILLED 60 NO KEYS they have to fix this..
Edit2:I found out a trick to fix this you just gotta get rid of the quest and do it again o-O

If you are having difficulty getting the key to drop try dropping your group. It appears to be a bug (?) in the current patch.
I killed every mob in the area - three times - and got no key. After dropping group I got it on my second kill. It's like the quest thinks you're in a raid group when you're just in a normal party group. At any rate - once one of your group gets the key just join up, open the box and all group members will get the quest completed :)

I killed about 60 or so and ended up abandoning the quest and wen't to get it again. First mob I kill after drops the key. Maybe try that.

After opening the box and getting ported back in the tower, my quest log didn't update... Is this bug somewhat new?

The drop rate varies dramatically. On my DK which i leveled recently I got it on the first kill, but on the mage I'm leveling now I must have killed over 50 with no luck. Even done a few random dungeons in between.

This quest is definitely bugged. Killed off 30-40 beryl mage hunters with no key drop. Dropped the quest and almost gave up, but after running another quest in the area I gave it one more shot. Key dropped on the second mob. So if you're running as bad a luck as me, try dropping and retaking the quest.

Once you get one key you can reuse it over and over again, you don't need to keep looking for more.

I was having trouble OPENING the boxes and simply abandoned the quest and got it again- now it is working fine :)

had the key the second kill, but the prisoner died and i got no credit. i then killed about 10 more, no key, was ready to abandon the quest, but then i checked my bags. the same key could be used again! had killed all those mobs and got angry and frustrated for nothing.

ok so key drop on the 2nd kill, but went to the disc with loads of prisons ......all empty so walked down SW and found a disc with only one cube and bingo that the one, hope this helps

The drop rate for the key was always a bit lower than I'd like but this is the first time I've done this quest in years. I've cleared the area of Beryl Mage Hunters several times over and no key. I don't remember the drop rate being so frustratingly low.

Librarian Donathan on Amber Ledge wants you to collect the Beryl Prison Key from one of the Beryl Mage Hunters at Beryl Point and use it to release a trapped mage from an arcane prison.
